Motion at National APF Forum

The following motion was passed at the National APF Forum last week.

UNISON’s affiliated political fund committee will decide whether to make a supporting nomination in the Labour leadership contest, and if so who, in line with its democratic processes.
An emergency motion adopted at the union’s Labour Link Forum conference in Newcastle on Friday stated:
“Labour Link’s role inside the Labour Party is to advance the best interests of UNISON members, working for quality public services, equality and decent pay and conditions.
“Forum reaffirms that this agenda and supporting the election of a Labour government are the primary duties of Labour Link.
“Forum agrees that if there is to be a leadership challenge, party rules and procedures must be adhered to.
“Labour Link will then follow our procedures for agreeing our nomination:
  • that all candidates have outlined their policy agenda and leadership credentials;
  • regional Labour Link committees are consulted;
  • the National Committee agrees which candidate to support.”
